“Annual International Coffee Day – IWCA Uganda”
Every first day of October, the 77 Member States of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and dozens of coffee associations from around the globe join in celebration of the annual International Coffee Day. International Coffee Day (ICD) is a global celebration of coffee’s journey from the farm to your local shop — an opportunity to honour the women and men who grow and harvest the coffee we love. In Uganda, the International Coffee Day will be celebrated on Thursday 4 October 2018 at Mukono Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MUZARDI).
Under the theme ‘Women in Coffee’, the International Coffee Day celebrations will be attended by members of the IWCA Uganda Chapter and interested members of the general public. The Guest of Honour will be the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. The IWCA Uganda Chapter President will deliver the Keynote Address. The Managing Director of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, Executive Director of the Uganda Coffee Federation will also be in attendance. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development will deliver remarks on government’s preparedness to get women at the help in the coffee value chains.
The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Uganda Chapter is part of a global network of self-organized, self-governing women in coffee lobby and advocacy organizations. We develop and implement our own goals and objectives to advance women’s cause in the coffee sector in Uganda. The vision, mission and core values of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Uganda Chapter are in alignment with those of the IWCA at the global level. We envision a society where women are empowered to equitably get involved in decision-making at all levels within the coffee value chain in Uganda. Our mission is to empower women in the coffee community to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives; and to encourage and recognize the participation of women in all aspects of the coffee industry in Uganda.
